One of my favorite quotes is about change.
“All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.” ~Anatole France
Fear of change can be crippling even when the change is desired. It’s much easier to stay in your comfort zone even if that zone becomes uncomfortable . It’s familiar. it feels safe. It’s also a dead end, joy sucking place to stay.
I came across a podcast by Mel Robbins regarding her “Five Second Rule.” I then read the book. It is quite literally changing me, my life. Yes, it’s scary, but change is healthy and I need it! I want MORE out of this life. Don’t you? Here’s a link to a recent YouTube video.
More often than not we, as humans, won’t start something if we think we can’t finish it. Is this a healthy thought process? I think maybe not.
My daughter told me the other day that she couldn’t exercise because the baby might wake up half way through her workout. So she’s been putting it off even though she knows ultimately she will feel better physically and emotionally. I told her half way to anywhere is better than nowhere.
Afterwards, I contemplated this is my own life. How many things have I not started and really wanted to? Like this blog for example? We can miss out on a whole lot by never stepping out of what’s easy, comfortable and a sure thing. Why not explore what’s out there and available to improve our health, well-being and overall desire to become our best self?
I challenge you to pick something that you have consistently been putting on the back burner that you want to start or try and go with it! It’s always a win even if it doesn’t turn out exactly as expected.
Step out of your comfort zone and embrace the exhilaration of what’s on the otger side of the line that you drew in the sand however many decades ago.
I’m going to be right there with you. I’ve been postponing a business opportunity that’s available to me. I don’t know if it’s fear of failure or success, but I haven’t went with it. So, I’m challenging myself today to move forward in it in the New Year!
